Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。慈惠九岁那年失去双亲，为吴父所领养，吴母认定慈惠是吴父在外的私生女，直至成年后，慈惠与家栋完婚，才打破吴母所指为误…… 　　慈惠生产前夕，家栋出国签约，孰料，产后的慈惠听医生宣布孩子是个死婴，吴母一怒之下要求慈惠签下离婚协议书。家栋返国，慈惠已不知去向，悲痛之余酒后驾车，成为终生残障的轮椅人。慈惠绝望地投海自尽，为打渔人海生所救。 　　死婴是吴母和医生串通的技俩，事实上，慈惠产下的是名男婴——名为念祖……重生后的慈惠视海生的一对子女(耀辉与雯玲)如己出般的辅育成人。 　　雯玲大学毕业后，考上知名企业机构的公关员，其主管正是念祖，念祖对雯玲颇生好感，很快地掳获了雯玲的芳心。当雯玲带着念祖回家，海生询问念祖的家世，一旁的慈惠傻了眼，思忖着念祖可能就是当年被称为死婴的亲生儿子……慈惠找到二十年前生产的医院，医生向慈惠忏悔着，当年他嗜赌欠下赌场一大笔赌债，吴...。
