本剧根据王朔的小说《玩的就是心跳》改编。 作家方言（佟大为 饰）从警察口中得知儿时的伙伴高洋（果静林 饰）离开人世的消息，追忆起他和儿时一群伙伴的成长往事。思绪万千的方言，从追忆的海洋中回到了现实的彼岸。方言已经平静了许久的生活又被打破了。他决定带着种种疑问去寻访那些过去的伙伴们。他们都是50年代末出生在北京某军队大院里的孩子，共同经历了那个特殊年代。70年代中期，他们先后参军离开了北京。80年代，改革的春风从中国的南方沿海城市吹起，广州这个开放的前沿城市更是如火如荼地大兴改革之风。下海经商的浪潮，吸引着无数年轻人跃跃试试，大展宏图。当年的同伴们有的上了大学，有的到广州下海经商，几个一起长大的朋友有的失踪了，有的去世了，有的历尽商海艰险后毅然决然回到北京……。Jake Cullen (Bill Kerr) lives with his grandson in the Australian outback when a massive razorback boar attacks him, destroying his house and killing his grandson. But he shows what he can do when the farm has to bring a 100 head of cattle to the slaughterhouses of Los Angeles to avoid going bankrupt, against the will of his neighbour who wants a better price. After a shoot-out with the neighbour's men he's the only person on a Los Angeles bound train with 1000 cows....。
