1949年春夏之交，解放军某部连长王前进奉命到江浙水乡剿灭对抗新政权、屠杀军民的悍匪吴八妹。水门地区敌情复杂，剿匪小队得天时而无地利，王前进以智勇斗顽匪，发动群众，巧用兵力，终擒获匪首，重挫水匪。。独居老人邓美娟（吕中 饰）因为常常接到骚扰电话而忧心忡忡，但是大儿子大军（冯远征 饰）及大儿媳（秦海璐 饰）却认为是老人因为丧偶而引发的臆想症。老邓试着跟小儿子小兵（秦昊 饰）沟通，却演变成因为看不惯同性恋儿子的生活习惯引发的争吵。就这样，老邓变成了两个儿子生活中的闯入 者，格格不入地生活在老房子里。随着时间的推移，小区内发生的入室抢劫案以及大军家里发生的恶作剧事件，逐渐让一家人变得警惕起来，而就在此时老邓遇到了一个游荡的少年（石榴 饰），并好心地让他在家里借住。可是事件并没有平息，而是愈演愈烈，两兄弟终于发现一切事件的发生都与几十年前母亲在三线建设中发生的事有密切关系……。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
